I left my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, in 1970, with a bad taste in my mouth. It was a dirty, crime-ridden city with seemingly no redeeming value other than having a river that could catch fire. The rest of the country referred to it as "The Mistake On The Lake" -- and so did we.
I've been back many times over the years to visit my family (in the suburbs), but have never taken a good look at the revitalized downtown region. As I was crossing from the west side to the east one night, the fog created conditions that, as an amateur photographer, were too good to pass up. I went back the next day to see the other side of the coin, and got caught in one of the city's legendary snowstorms!
So here's to the old hometown, a generation later...
